Meaning

English

Expiry management is the routine of tracking expiry dates, selling near-expiry stock in time, and removing or returning expired goods before they reach customers.

Roman Urdu

Expiry management matlab expiry dates par nazar rakhna, qareeb-ul-expiry maal waqt par bechna, aur expire hone wala maal gahak tak pohanchne se pehle hatana ya wapas karna.

Also called expiry tracking, near expiry, short expiry, expiry date management.

Example

Every Monday a mini-mart prints the list of items expiring within 60 days. Juices due next month go on a front shelf with a small offer, and two cartons of yoghurt past their date are taken off and recorded as written off.

How it works

Expired stock is pure loss, and selling it damages trust and can break the law, especially for medicines. Good expiry management has four steps: record expiry at receiving, review a near-expiry list on a fixed day, act early (move to the front, offer, or return to the supplier while the return window is open), and record whatever is written off.

Many distributors in Pakistan accept near-expiry returns only within a set period before the date, so knowing what expires in the next two or three months matters more than knowing what already expired.

In Nafaa

Nafaa's low stock page shows stock near expiry in each branch, with a setting for how many days ahead to warn. The pharmacy pack adds an expiring page with returns to the supplier or write-off, and damaged or expired goods go through the damage page with manager approval.
